Generous local Rotarians present cheque to Hospice from golf day
25 AugustGenerous members of the Rotary Club of Bridge of Allan and Dunblane presented a cheque for £13,750 to Strathcarron Hospice at the club's recent meeting, following the very successful Am-Am golf tournament at Dunblane Golf Club.
President Lawrie Orr welcomed two guests to the meeting; Director of Strathcarron Hospice, Irene McKie and Captain of Dunblane New Golf Club, George Scott. On a very warm and pleasant evening, along with our guests, Past President Robert Steele and Hospice Support Committee Chair, Jim Gardner, President Lawrie presented a cheque for £13,750 to Irene.
The money was raised at the 26th annual Am-Am golf tournament held at the end of June. Lawrie explained how the generosity of the golf club and the many sponsors enabled Rotary to organise this event. He thanked everyone who made it possible in particular the golf club directors and staff and volunteers who helped with the catering and organisation of the event. Jim Gardner coordinated the event on behalf of Rotary.
Irene thanked Rotary and Dunblane New Golf Club for this generous donation. She explained how important regular donations have become now that charitable donations are necessary for over 60% of the annual running costs of the Hospice.
During the Business Meeting, Lawrie advised the Club of the resignation of Norman Excell. One of club's founder members, 37 years ago and President of the Club in 1978-79, Norman has played an active role over all the years but has now decided to step down.
The club wholeheartedly supported a proposal to make Norman an Honorary member. Before the modern A9 bypassed Dunblane, Norman's Fourways cafe was known throughout Scotland as a resting haven on journeys north and south.
