Jim MacLeod and his band at the Dunblane Hydro

  • John Sinton, Alex Doig, Jim MacLeod, Tommy Ford and Jim Cleland

Here's a piece of Dunblane's musical history - the legendary Jim MacLeod with his band at the Dunblane Hydro.

This picture was taken for The Herald when Jim was marking 21 years at the hotel - way back in 1985!

The pianist and singer was a TV and radio favourite, making his first broadcast on the BBC back in 1955. He became musical director at the Hydro in the early 1960s - by which time he already had a George Martin-produced recording under his belt - and regularly broadcast from the hotel for shows such as the White Heather Club and the Hogmanay shows.

Jim retired in 2003 and sadly died the following year at his Dunblane home.

There must be loads of memories of going to the dancin' with Jim MacLeod and his band. Why not share them here on s1dunblane?

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
